Does anyone ever let their garden dry out a little bit?

Been using this misting system to water the plants, some people say it's not worth it, but my plants have grown like crazy since the misting.

However, since the soil is so rich, it never really completely "dries" out. Let the garden go without watering for a day and it's still kinda damp even with 100 degree temps, although humidity is high.

Also, all the plants get about an equal amount of water. The leaves to get wet, but the droplets from the mist are so tiny, that they dry real fast.

Most plants do better when the soil is not soggy. Let the surface dry between waterings. Wet leaves promote fungus and mold. That is why you need to water in the morning and not at night, so the sun can dry the leaves quickly. Cucumber and cantaloupes will not do well with wet leaves and neither will tomatoes. Surface watering is not good for plants since the roots do not try to go deep and when you get a dry spell, they will not fare well. But if what you’re doing is working for you, keep at it. Negative effects will show up soon enough, if it’s not good. Don’t fix it if it’s working.

Yes, I do. If the ground is always wet it encourages slugs and mold growth. If the plants look happy and are not wilting, they don’t need to be watered. Some plants need more water than others. You don’t necessarily have to water them all, all the time.
