Garden Bird Bath

I have a very nice garden if you don't mind me saying. I really enjoy laying on the grass and playing with my kids. The kids really enjoy watching the birds gather around our garden bird bath.  It really is the one accent piece for our garden that i couldn't do without.  We get a lot of varieties of finch and robyn's, there is even magpies and pidgins but oh well.

There is a great variety of birds lining up to feast at my garden bird bath which to me is pretty exciting.  If you want to attract the birds try adding some cut up vegitables and bird feed on the side of your bird bath, dont worry once the bird realise its there they will come back and bring friends so if you dont have a lot of birds right now its likely because theres nothing for them in your backyard. Add a nice garden bird bath to bring in and really draw the birds to you. We didnt have any hummingbirds until we started putting feeders up all over now they seem to be flourishing.  Add some solar options and have a solar bird bath which really gets rid of all the chords which is nice.

Garden Bird Bath Questions

Question:

how do you keep your bird bath clean but still make it usable for all animals?

our bird bath at home gets really dirty and leaves get into it and then in the summer, the mosquitoes lay their eggs and yada yada yada but how do you keep it clean without putting NASTY chemicles in it. i sure wouldnt want to kill the animals/birds please help!?

Answer:

We usually scrub them,we have two, once a month with some bleach water rinse well and refill. If you are worried with mosquitoes you can buy floaters that repel them. The bird baths get filled with fresh water every few days so its not a problem, but washed once a month.DO NOT leave bleach in them it will kill the birds.

Question:

how would it preserve the life of an ornamental statue that is on top of a bird bath to fill inside of it...?

with concrete mix?

i am not sure if it is plaster or concrete material, not sure how to tell...but the inside is hollow and allows a tube to carry water through it as a fountain, but would it preserve the life of it if i filled the inside of it with concrete??

why so for this?

Thanks for your answers!

also, anyone can tell me how i would know for sure if it is plaster or concrete?

the bowl of the garden bath is quite heavy, so i am assuming that it is concrete and not plaster, but how would i know for sure regarding the statue on top?

Thanks for your answers!
as well as the actual bird bath bowl?

would plaster be very heavy?
to the first answerer, than what could it be made out of??

and again, how much would it preserve the life of it to do what you are saying or how about just filling the inside of it with concrete??

Answer:

if its hollow very unlikely its concrete as its very difficult to make hollow concrete materials,as for preserving it a good concrete sealer will work well on any material like that, good luck

Question:

Was Jesus betrayed in a garden centre because he wouldn't buy a birdbath?
